The laws that the British had throughout
the Revolutionary War

¨The country shall be Independent and we will be satisfied
with nothing short of it!¨ Said Samuel Adams during the
Revolutionary War. During this book you will learn about some
laws/acts that the British had during the war, the Proclamation
of 1763, the Quartering Act, the Stamp Act, and
the Intolerable Acts.

Chapter 1: The Proclamation of 1763
After the French and Indian war many British moved west into the land that
Britain had won from the French. Native Americans were afraid that this
movement of settlers would destroy their way of life. Some of them tried to drive
the settlers away by attacking their forts and houses. In 1763 nearly 2,000 settlers died because of the fighting. To stop the fighting and protect the colonists,Britain announced a law called the  Proclamation of 1763. The law said that the Native Americans could have all the land west of the Appalachian mountains and that settlers could not move there. Many colonists disliked this law. Many of them simply ignored this law and continued moving west. Even more of them didn’t like the way that Britain was trying to control the colonies.

Chapter 2: The Quartering act
The British government left thousands of soldiers protecting the colonists they
were afraid that the Native Americans or the Spanish soldiers in Florida might
attack due to the French and Indian War.The British thought that the colonists
should help to pay for this army. As a result in 1765 a new law called the
Quartering act was made by the British. The law was called this because it
ordered the people in England to give the Redcoats places to live or s they
called it back in the day places to live. It ordered them to supply them with food,
fuel, candles, and to provide them transportation. The colonists were angry about
the Quartering Act.

Chapter 3: The Stamp Act
After the fighting the French and Indian War, Britain needed money to pay for
the debts they also needed to pay for the soldiers who were protecting the
colonists and for the ones who remained in America. The British Parliament
(The law making part of the British government) thought that all the colonists
should pay for all these things. So in 1765 the Parliament passed a new tax
law called The Stamp Act. The stamp act said that the colonists would have to
pay for a tax on printed paper. To prove that the tax was paid almost every
single piece of printed paper would have to show a big blue stamp.
Newspapers, pamphlets, marriage licenses, and even playing cards were taxed.
News of this new tax made the colonists very mad. They did not want to pay
more money for things they used every day of their life.I think this is horrible
what they did to the colonists.I would not want to live in England during this time.

Chapter: 4 The Intolerable Acts
After the Boston Tea party,The parliament decided to punish the colonists by
passing several more laws. These laws were so harsh that many colonists said
that they could not tolerate them. They called these acts the Intolerable acts. One
law, the Boston port act closed Boston harbor.Trade ships were forbidden to
enter or leave the harbor until the lost tea was paid for. Many workers lost their
jobs. Some colonists were afraid that the citizens of Boston would starve.
People throughout the colonies promised to help Boston by sending money by
sending money, food, and supplies. In September 1774, leaders from 12 colonies
gathered in Philadelphia to discuss the problem with Britain.
Because this meeting included almost all of the colonies on the North America
continent it was called the first Continental Congress. The angry delegates
agreed to fight the Boston port act and other Intolerable acts. We are lucky that
people don’t do this to us.

It was horrible what they did to the colonists back in the day. These acts started
the Revolutionary War. The parliament was the blame for all these acts.
King George was the King of England at the time. The Proclamation of 1763,
the Quartering Act, the Stamp Act, and the Intolerable Acts. All of these acts
were causes of the Revolutionary War.
