The first time I went fishing
“Fish on” said my grandfather. The
line was moving as fast as the raging river. I quickly ran across the river
bank in my tiny frog boots over to where he was standing by his rock that he
calls his “Honey hole”.
“You take the line, and be careful” said my
grandfather gently giving me the fly-fishing rod. He was right, the line was
jumping back and forth in every direction. I pulled on it. The fish fiercely pulled back, and the line
jumped. I turned the reel as hard as I could really fast. My grandfather
stopped me and exclaimed “ Don’t pull the line that hard, or the fish will jump
of the line”. I kept going this time
slower until the fish had reached the shallow end of the river where the
current was not strong .It was a brown trout a big one to about 12 inches. I
reeled the fish in excitement in my eye as my dad caught it in the net. My dad
ripped the out the “fly” that was the
hook of the rod was like a fly down by the river. My dad took the fish and said
“ Thats a big fish you got there Jaxson” said my dad. “ Can we eat it please” I
said as my dad dropped the fish on the ground “ Yah, I don’t see why not” he
said. I knew we
had to clean the fish out and cook it. They cleaned the fish out with a
long, curved and sharp. We stabbed a stick through the fish’s stomach. “ We
should take a picture of this” said my dad. He took out the camera and said
“say cheese” said my dad. The camera flashed and the picture was taken. We
walked up the river bank, overrun with weeds, plants, and fungus. Up to the
house where my mom and grandmother would be waiting. We walked up to the door
of the house and brought the fish in. “wowww, you got a big one” said my
grandmother. “ We are going to cook it” said my mom as my grandfather and my
dad cleaned the fish out on the kitchen counter. We then glazed the fish in
golden olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper. The fish would now be
cooked on a frying pan for the next few hours.
1 hour later…….
The fish was
totally cooked it was white like before but, had and amber brown look. As I
took my first bite the flavor filled my mouth, the was amazing. Then I thought
how hard could fishing be.
