The Lesson

I remember the day, when I learned a lesson. It was a tragic day in my house for me, well for most of the part. Anyway, you’ll find out soon enough what happened on that horrifying day. But I will warn you, it is not such a happy story. Well, in the beginning at least.
“Honey! Are you ready for lunch yet?” my mom shouted from the kitchen counter, while slapping peanut butter onto one slice of bread. “In a few minutes mommy!” I answered back with a sneaky, but cheerful voice. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon, and we were about to have our special Mommy and Me lunch together. (We don’t do that anymore)
I was four years old, so I wasn’t the smartest child really, in fact I am pretty sure that I wasn’t smart at all at the time. For some reason, I had a crazy coo coo idea that I was going to ride my dog, no matter what would happen. Now, my dog was already eleven years old, so she wasn’t as playful as she used to be. But the funny thing is, I didn’t even think of how my dog would handle it. Which I should have thought about.
So before asking my mom, since I knew she would say no, I started tiptoeing towards a small room where I thought my dog would travel to as well since she was already sniffing nearby. Anyway, in the small little room, there was a black, marble table with metal chairs surrounding it. The chairs had little red and blue cushions sitting on them with little golden strings hanging down. I worked my way onto the chair and then onto table. I started edging the edge, my toes curling beneath the table. The table shook a little bit, but I wasn't going to stop then after all of the hard work I had already accomplished. So I waited and waited. Waited……. and I waited some more. My legs started aching, and they started feeling tingly. But then suddenly, I heard faint footsteps coming closer and closer. I started seeing a black snout, and soon big black and white paint blobs moving towards the table. It was my dog! She had finally come to save me from waiting! Now I was ready, too ready! My toes were now half way off of the marble table, I bent my knees, and off I went. It felt like I was falling through an endless tunnel. Well, not really. I finally landed. And I thought that I had actually landed pretty well. Except for the fact that I was sitting backwards on the dog. Well I thought, that was actually kind of fun. But I guess I spoke too soon, because just as I thought that, my dog started barking and bouncing madly. Suddenly my mom walked into the room. “honey, what are you doing?” she asked in horror. But just as she spoke those exact words it happened. I was bucked off, just like a horse. But from my own dog, now that’s terrifying. I started to feel a warm liquid brewing in my eyes, pain surrounding my bottom, and I heard a loud piercing scream come out from inside my mouth. “Oh, honey it’s okay. Shhhhh, now there, shhhhhhhhh.” my mom said plugging her ears as she patted my back. I slowly heard my vissious scream calm down into a little whine. Part of the reason I was crying was because I was so terrified that my own dog had actually barked at me. But the other part of my crying was mostly because of the pain that surrounded my bottom. “ Calm down, shhhhhh. Now…. how about a nice peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a glass of milk? Huh?” my mom asked with a smile. “Okay mommy.” I answered with a half smile while wiping my tears away. And off we went. Starting our traditional mommy and me lunch.
10 minutes later…  “Mmmmmmmmmm, this is delicious mommy.” I said trying to make her forget about what had just happened. “As usual! Anyway, you've got some explaining to do missy.” my mom said with the eyebrow look. “UGH!”
