D.A.R.E ESSAY
In Fifth Grade we had D.A.R.E. You may be thinking what is D.A.R.E?
D.A.R.E stands for DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION. The first
thing that may come to mind is drugs and you may think oh D.A.R.E
is just a class were you learn about drugs and how to resist them.
Well let me tell you, that is only a small part of what you do and learn
in D.A.R.E! In DARE you also learn about things that are good for your
body and things that are not so good for your body. You learn about
Making Safe and Responsible Choices, like picking whether you go do
your homework or go to your friend’s house and play a violent video
game that you know your Mom would not approve of. You learn about
resistance strategies, like if  one of your friends asked if you wanted to
play basketball and you said yes, and then you show up later and he is
drinking beer and offers you one. One strategy could be changing the
subject, or walking away, or making up an excuse. We learn about peer
pressure and the positive and negative consequences that will come
with your actions. We learned about stress and how to deal with it. We
learned about communication styles. these are the 3 styles; Unsure,
Confident, and Demanding. We learned about bullying and how to stand
up for people who are being bullied. And how to stand up for ourselves.
But the best part of it is that you did not just learn about all this stuff in a
boring way, you learned about this in a fun way. D.A.R.E was not one of those
classes that I dreaded, D.A.R.E was one of those classes that I actually looked
forward to. Our D.A.R.E teacher officer Mark, was the BEST  D.a.r.e teacher
ever. He made every single second of D.A.R.E class fun. And I will definitely miss
D.A.R.E next year and the years to follow.

I have learned so much in D.A.R.E this year. Not just about drugs or smoking
but about life in general, how to avoid bad situations, how to say no, and how
to stand up for yourself. And loads more! I could go on for pages about D.A.R.E!
I pledge never to use drugs unless prescribed by the doctor. Never to smoke,
to always think of the consequences that will come with my actions. And to
always try to make the right decision.
