I am my mother, Shannon

I wonder why Lily and Lorelai have to grow up

I hear the sound of laughter outside on the trampoline

I see the girls having the best time together

I want them to never grow up

I am their guardian

I pretend like nothing is happening,

and they are still kids

I feel like staying with them forever

I touch their hair as I am braiding it

I understand that they’ll need

to grow up sooner or later

I say, “I love you to the moon and back.”

I dream of them staying kids forever
