Jamestown
 Intro
Jamestown is one of the very early colonies settled by colonists. As there were many problems with this colony in  its early years, it strived to be one of the richest colonies drawing in many English men and gentleman. Many problems with this colony like a lack of food which lead to colonist stealing from the Native Americans who had the better land, the Native Americans did help but they got angry and started to kill any colonist who looked for food. Many colonists had no other choice but to eat other dead colonists and Native Americans that they dug up and ate, they also ate there clothes and any items they used. Many colonist died during the winter to only 38 colonists. Another major problem was the drought which had already started before they arrived in 1606, and ended in 1612. The land the colonist claimed was not a very good or healthy environment, it was on marshlands, which lead to mosquitoes carrying Malaria. Even though the Jamestown colonists struggled they strived to be one of the best colonies.

          Chapter 1 Development of Jamestown

In 1607 Jamestown was settled by the colonists this was going to be the second early settlement in what is now known as the U.S.  The pilgrims who came from mainly England to start a brand new life in the new world or land as they called it. They had to start an entirely new life from
scratch, they could only bring certain things and supplies for their homes. At first Jamestown ran into some big problems but Jamestown become a royal, affluent, and big town, to live in drawing in many rich families. Jamestown grew to be very large colony with a population of 5,000, which is alot for the first town. Jamestown was original strategically going to be far from the the river to avoid attackers and battleships.

Chapter 2  Hard times

On May 14,  1607, the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery, landed on Jamestown The hope for Jamestown was to find riches such as gold, silver, And sassafras,  but the journey was very rough as colonists had to be crammed into these little ships eating and drinking unsanitary food  with rodents giving everyone diseases and killing people. As they arrived they saw miles upon miles of new land great for their many needs of farming and housing but food was very important resource. Another impediment was the Marshlands Jamestown was situated on. The big drought that had started before they arrived was another big issue for the settlement, and from the time they arrived to around 1624 when King James turned Jamestown into a royal colony attracted many Gentlemen and English men and women. Problems between that timeline were mainly the starving time which took place from 1609-1610 the colonist would have to eat anything they could find their clothes shoes and they ever dug up humans.

           Chapter 3 Wealth

Jamestown’s main hope was to find gold, silver sassafras, and other luxury items, But they found very little of those items. In later years the colonist of Jamestown discovered Tobacco which interested many people in those times. This was a good relief for the colonists, because if they did not produce anything worth money they would have to live on their own. The only problem with there Tabaco it was too and bitter, The colonists said that the Tobacco from the Indies it is said the location had an impact on the taste of the finally product. John Rolfe tried to plant Tobacco seeds from the Indies in Jamestown, and it worked this became a very big deal in Jamestown. The Tobacco problem with this is that it drained the nutrients out of the soil causing only about 3 growing seasons for the plot of land the grower had. This soil disruption caused a huge drive for soil and land, then three years later the original soil has its nutrients back to grow more tobacco. People grew it every they could possible do it in from the streets to public spaces. Another good thing for Jamestown was that in 1624 it was made a royal colony by King James I and it was the capital of Virginia. Many people enjoyed Jamestown's tobacco but King James I thought it was filthy and bad for your health creating your lungs black. But it made a lot of money for London England and basically everyone who smoked it. As Jamestown persuaded through its hard times to becoming successful it also started to change to not being
the capital anymore in 1699 to no longer existing in through the 1750s, which was a big decision but it was decided to be a museum for colonists.
Jamestown may have been the first early colony in the new world but it was one of the first colony to no longer exists.  Jamestown was a very rough time to live in as the colonist strived through the starving time and fought through the hard times Jamestown made history.
